Getting started: setup wizard, store format and the sample menu
Set up your shop in six skippable steps, pick a store format, set your owner PIN, add a sample menu or read your menu from a photo, then sell your first bill.
Signing up and setting your password
The signup page only asks for the shop name, the owner's name and an email (plus an invite or referral code if you have one); there is no password field. We email a link to that address. Open it, set a password of at least 8 characters and type it again; the shop opens straight away and takes you to the setup wizard. So only someone who can open that inbox can set the password. The link works once, within 24 hours; if you sign up again, only the newest link works. If you get this email without signing up, you can ignore it.
Steps
- Enter the shop name and your email on the signup page
- Open the email from BoxBak and tap the linkCheck Spam or Junk if you cannot find it
- Set your password and type it againNext time, sign in with this email and this password
The six-step setup wizard
After signing up and signing in for the first time, the owner is taken once from the store overview to the setup wizard (the POS is never interrupted). Every step can be skipped and changed later in Settings. Skip setup sets the shop up as a general restaurant without switching any feature off, and the wizard will not open by itself again. You can reopen it any time at /onboarding.
Steps
- Pick your store formatAnswer 3 questions for a recommendation, then pick what you mainly sell; if unsure, choose sit-down restaurant with a kitchen
- Shop name, branch name and opening hours
- How you sellDine-in, takeaway, delivery and the number of tables; the tables are created for you
- Taking paymentCash is always on; add a PromptPay number or ID to take QR payments
- Owner PINThe 6-digit PIN that approves voids, discounts and refunds; confirm with the password you sign in with
- MenuAdd the sample menu, photograph your menu board, import Excel, or do it later
Why set an owner PIN
A new shop has no approval ceilings yet, so voiding a bill, giving a discount or making a refund asks for an approver PIN every time, whatever the amount. An owner who has just signed up has no PIN, so the Owner PIN step of the setup wizard sets one: enter the password you sign in with to confirm it is you, then choose a PIN of at least 6 digits that is not a run or a repeat. If you skip it, the first time an approval is needed the approval window offers No PIN yet. Set your PIN now, or set it on My account.
Good to know
- A PIN is not your password: sign in with the password, approve at the till with the PIN.
- Too many wrong PINs lock approvals for a while, never signing in.
The 8 store formats and what gets hidden
There are 8 formats: small and fast (made-to-order dishes, rice and curry, chicken rice/pork leg rice/one-dish), small sit-down (noodles, som tam/Isan), drinks/desserts at a counter (cafe, milk tea/bubble tea, juice/smoothies, ice cream/desserts), sit-down restaurant with a kitchen (general restaurant, Japanese/sushi/ramen), tables that keep ordering (grill/shabu by the plate, per-head buffet, bar/pub), made in batches (bakery), delivery only, and wholesale. If what you sell is not listed, pick “Not in the list” and type it in. A cart, food truck or market stall ticks “Sells on the move”, which turns online pre-ordering off. The format decides which screens a shop like yours does not need yet are hidden (such as the kitchen display, purchase orders, production and the full HR pack); what you mainly sell picks the sample menu and the QR page look. Every feature stays free: switch any of them back on at Settings › Store features, and change the format later at Settings › Store format.
The sample menu, and removing it in one click
The sample menu has categories, options (such as sweetness, spiciness, size, noodle type, soup) and 8-15 items with prices typical for that kind of shop. Each item carries a Sample badge on the menu page; edit the names and prices to your own. If the shop already has a menu, you are asked before items are added and duplicate names are skipped. Tap Remove the sample menu in the wizard to take it out in one click; items you edited or already sold are kept with a reason, and the history is in the import data center.
Sell the first bill, or practise first
At the end of the wizard, choose Sell the first bill to open the POS, or Practise in training mode to try ringing up bills with no effect on real sales, tax or stock.
