Receipt printer, receipt design and fixing printing problems
Set up this device's printer (paper width, print route, auto-print), run a test print, design the receipt, set header and footer text and logo, and fix receipts that do not print.
Set up this device's printer
Open Settings › Receipts & printers, tab Printer (this device). Choose the paper width, 58 mm (handheld) or 80 mm (countertop), the print route (Automatic is recommended) and the number of copies. Each choice is saved immediately.
Steps
- Open Settings › Receipts & printers and choose the Printer (this device) tab
- Choose the paper width that matches the real paper roll
- Choose the print routeAutomatic uses the print app when the device has one, otherwise the browser's print window
- Tap Test print to check the result
Good to know
- Settings on this tab are stored on this device only. Other devices or another browser must be set up separately.
- When printing through the browser, copies are chosen in the system print window.
Run a test print and read the slip
Tap Test print on the This device's printer card. Through the browser, a print window opens: choose the printer and print. A good slip has dashed lines that reach both edges and Thai vowels and tone marks that look right. Through the print app, the card shows Ready or Needs attention with the reason.
Print automatically on payment
Print automatically on successful payment can be switched on per payment method (Cash / PromptPay / Split payment). It works only on devices that print through the in-app printer; when printing through the browser window it cannot be switched on.
Good to know
- A voided bill never prints automatically.
Design the receipt
The Receipt design tab lets you reorder, show or hide and configure each part of the receipt: store image, text, date and time, items, totals, payment, QR code and footer text. Start from a ready-made layout (Simple / Standard / Detailed) and adjust it; tap a line on the preview to edit that part, then tap Save. The saved design is used for receipts across the whole store.
Steps
- Open Settings › Receipts & printers, tab Receipt design
- Pick a starting point or Add a block, then drag to reorder
- Check the preview and tap Test printIf it says this device's width differs from the template, tap to use the device width
- Tap Save
Good to know
- Parts marked Required cannot be hidden or removed.
- You can clear the design and go back to the standard receipt at any time, and Undo a wrong edit.
Kitchen tickets: print each order round for the kitchen, split by printer
The Kitchen tickets tab on Settings › Receipts & printers switches kitchen tickets on per branch and sets up the kitchen printers (for example Hot kitchen / Drinks bar) and which items each one gets, by menu item, menu category or KDS station; anything left goes to the main printer. A ticket prints for each round: when you tap Send to kitchen on the bill, when you leave the bill (switch bills, park it, go to the floor plan), on payment, when a guest orders by QR and when an online order arrives. Tickets carry no prices. Items reduced or removed after the kitchen had them, and voided bills, print a cancel ticket; splitting or merging bills prints nothing new.
Steps
- Open Settings › Receipts & printers, tab Kitchen tickets, and switch on Print kitchen tickets at this branch
- Set up the kitchen printers and what each one gets, then tap Save
- On each device that prints kitchen tickets, choose Print kitchen tickets on this device or Automatic, and the kitchen printers it servesA kitchen device signed in with a kitchen account sets this from the settings button on the kitchen display
- Tap Print a test kitchen ticket
Good to know
- Automatic prints by itself only on a device with a built-in printer through the BoxBak Android app. A device that prints through the browser shows a Kitchen tickets to print bar for one tap.
- Reprint from the Kitchen tickets button on the bill: print on this device, or send to the kitchen printer again.
- Safe for a store without a printer: no print window ever pops up by itself.
Nothing prints, receipts do not come out, or the print looks wrong
Start with Test print on Settings › Receipts & printers on the device with the problem. Through the browser, check the print window has the receipt printer selected. Through the print app, follow the message on the status card or in the receipt window, such as out of paper, cover open, print head too hot or printer not responding; fix it and tap Print again.
Steps
- Check the printer is on, has paper and the cover is closed
- Open Settings › Receipts & printers on that device and tap Test printThis page needs an account that can change store settings; if you cannot open it, ask the owner or a manager to sign in on that device and set it up
- If the receipt is cut off or has a blank margin, fix the paper width
- Go back to the receipt window and tap Print again
Good to know
- If it says no printer was found on this device, tap Print to send it through the system print window instead.
- A new device or a different browser needs the printer set up again, because settings are stored per device.
- Auto-print not working? Check the device prints through the in-app printer and auto-print is on for that payment method.
- Printing a receipt never changes sales or payments, so printing again is safe.
