Install BoxBak as a Windows app, and connect a receipt printer
Install BoxBak from Edge or Chrome so it has its own Start menu and taskbar icon and window, connect a receipt printer that has a Windows driver, set 58/80 mm paper, and test with Print to PDF before you own a printer.
Install BoxBak as a Windows app
BoxBak installs straight from the browser; there is no installer to download. Once installed it has a BoxBak icon in the Start menu that you can pin to the taskbar, and opens in its own window without the address bar. Your data and sign-in are the same as in the browser.
Steps
- Open boxbak.app in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome
- Click the Install app icon at the end of the address barIf you do not see it: in Edge, menu ... › Apps › Install BoxBak; in Chrome, menu ⋮ › Cast, save, and share › Install BoxBak.
- Click Install, then sign in inside the app window
- Right-click the taskbar icon and choose Pin to taskbar to open it in one click
Good to know
- The app updates itself whenever BoxBak ships a new version; you never reinstall.
- Uninstall from the Apps page of Windows Settings, or right-click the Start menu icon and choose Uninstall.
Shortcuts to the POS, kitchen display and reports
Right-click the BoxBak icon on the taskbar or in the Start menu for the shortcuts POS, KDS and Sales reports, each opening that page directly. An account without access to the page sees the same no-access screen as from the normal menu.
Connect a receipt printer to Windows
On Windows BoxBak prints receipts through the browser's print window, so any receipt printer works as long as it has a Windows driver and shows up in Windows' Printers & scanners list, connected by USB or LAN.
Steps
- Install the printer's Windows driver from the disc or the maker's website, then connect the USB or LAN cable
- In Windows Settings, open Bluetooth & devices, then Printers & scanners, and check the printer is listedWindows' own Print a test page separates a driver problem from a BoxBak one.
- Make the receipt printer the default printerTurn off Let Windows manage my default printer first, then choose Set as default; the print window then picks it for you.
Good to know
- When buying, check it has a Windows driver; 80 mm paper suits a shop on a computer, and an auto-cutter is worth having.
- On Windows every receipt opens the print window for you to confirm. Printing without asking only works on devices with a built-in printer through the BoxBak Android app.
Set the paper width to 58 or 80 mm
Set it in two places, BoxBak and the print window, and make them match; otherwise the receipt is clipped or the text shrinks.
Steps
- Open Settings › Receipts & printers, tab Printer (this device), and pick 58 mm or 80 mm to match the rollPrint method Automatic or Browser print dialog only both behave the same on Windows.
- Press Test print and choose the receipt printer in the print window
- Open More settings and pick the driver's 58 or 80 mm roll as the paper sizeThe name depends on the brand, e.g. 80mm x 297mm or Roll Paper 58 x 3276 mm.
- Set Margins to None, Scale to Default, and turn off Headers and footers
Good to know
- The browser remembers the print window settings; set them once per computer.
Test with Print to PDF before you have a printer
Without a printer you can still check the print path and what the receipt says: in the print window choose Save as PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF and open the file. A PDF has no paper roll, so the receipt stretches across the full A4 width rather than 58 or 80 mm. For the layout at the real paper width, use the on-screen preview in the receipt designer.
Steps
- Set the paper width in Settings › Receipts & printers to match the printer you plan to buy, then check the on-screen preview in the receipt designerThe preview uses the real paper width; use it to check line wrapping and long item names.
- Press Test print, or print the receipt of a paid bill
- Choose Save as PDF in the print window and click Save
- Open the PDF and check Thai vowels and tone marks are complete, and the shop name, logo, items and totals are right
Good to know
- Text size and width on real paper depend on the printer's driver; once the printer arrives, press Test print again and check the dashed line spans the full paper width.
