Food cost per dish
See what each dish costs in ingredients, what share of its price that is, and which dishes need a price or recipe fix.
Read the Food Cost page
The top cards show the average food cost, how many dishes cost over 35% of their price, dishes that can't be calculated yet, and the total number of dishes. The dish list shows the menu price, cost per serving and cost as a percentage of the price. The page opens on the Needs a fix filter; switch to Cost is fine or All.
Good to know
- A dish whose cost is over 35% of its price counts as high cost, the same mark the menu page uses.
Fix dishes with a high or missing cost
Each dish has a fix button for its problem: High cost has Edit price or Edit recipe, No recipe yet has Add recipe, No menu price has Set price, and Ingredient cost missing has Open ingredient to see the ingredient that has no purchase price yet.
Steps
- Read the reason under each dish in the Needs a fix filter
- Tap the dish's fix button; it opens the recipe or price on the menu page, or the ingredient page
- Come back and tap Refresh to see the new figures
Good to know
- An ingredient gets a purchase price when you first receive it.
How the cost is calculated
Cost per serving is the recipe quantity of each ingredient times the ingredient's cost, which comes from the prices you actually received it at (the average cost of your deliveries, or the latest received price). So it changes when you receive at a new price or edit the recipe. A dish without a recipe is never counted as a zero cost; it shows No recipe yet.
See the cost of one bill
Under Cost of one bill, enter a bill number and tap Show cost. The app shows the sales, the ingredient cost and the cost as a percentage of sales, with the cost of each line. If a dish has no recipe or an ingredient has no price, the cost shows as incomplete.
Why you cannot open this page
This page shows the cost of every dish, so only people allowed to see costs can open it. If it says you don't have permission, ask the owner to give you access to costs. The page also needs advanced inventory switched on, which the owner can do in Settings › Store features.
